6. Site Reconnaissance
As part of the Phase 2 of the Project on Identification and Evaluation of Pollution Hot Spots in the Dnipro Basin, the Joint Stock Company KyivVodokanal, including the Bortnichy Wastewater Treatment Plant, was visited by the Assessment Team. The visit started from the opening meeting with the administration of the JSC KyivVodokanal and all participants, followed by the Bortnichy Wastewater Treatment Plant general tour. During the following three days work, the expert team had a number of meetings, inter alia:

A number of other Company and Plant specialists responsible for technical and financial/economic issues were also involved in the discussions held during the office and site visits.
The site reconnaissance included an extensive walk-through the Bortnichy Wastewater Treatment Plant facilities and a drive-by of the sludge collection ponds.
Before the site visit, the detailed questionnaire was prepared and sent to the JSC KyivVodokanal by the SNС-Lavalin experts to collect information required for technical and economic assessment of potential mitigation measures, including:
- Characterisation and assessment of environmental impacts of pollution produced at the Treatment Plant;
- Operational efficiency of existing technology and equipment;
- Presence/status of environmental improvement programmes and plans, and existing improvement opportunities.
Far not all data and/or materials requested and Questionnaire replies were provided before site visit.
