In 1999, the Chernigiv Vodokanal Company discharged 32,530,000 m3 of wastewater.  The 1999 quantities of individual contaminants that entered the Desna River with effluent discharges from the Chernigiv Vodokanal Company are as follows: BODt (245 tonnes); oil products (4.554 tonnes); suspended substances (380 tonnes); dry residue (16,280 tonnes); sulphates (1,415 tonnes); chlorides (2,410 tonnes); ammonium nitrogen (228 tonnes); nitrates (349 tonnes); surfactants (0.26 tonne); iron (9.76 tonne); copper (0.569 tonne); zinc (0.455 tonne); and nickel (0.683 tonne).

In 2000, the total volume of effluent discharged by Chernigiv Vodokanal Company was 31,420,000 m3 per year.  The following contaminants entered the Desna River with effluent discharges from Chernigiv Vodokanal Company over 2000: BODt (234 tonnes); oil products (1.414 tonnes); suspended substances (294 tonnes); dry residue (15,070 tonnes); sulphates (1,368 tonnes); chlorides (2,373 tonnes); ammonium nitrogen (338 tonnes); nitrates (295 tonnes); surfactants (0.22 tonne); iron (6.912 tonnes); copper (0.534 tonne); zinc (0.377 tonne); and nickel (0.408 tonne).

The Chernigiv Vodokanal Company contributed 0.54% to the total volume of effluent discharges in the Dnipro Basin.

Priority contaminants contributed by the Chernigiv Vodokanal Company to the total pollution of surface waters in the Basin are: ammonium nitrogen, copper, iron, and nitrates.
