5.3.19. 710176 Cherkasy Water Utility

In 1999, the total volume of effluent discharged by the Cherkasy Water Utility was 2,488,000 m3.  The entire volume of wastewater was released into the Kremenchug reservoir without any treatment, carrying major contaminants in the following quantities: BODt (7 tonnes); suspended substances (88 tonnes); dry residue (620 tonnes); sulphates (84 tonnes); chlorides (71 tonnes); ammonium nitrogen (1 tonne); nitrates (7 tonnes); surfactants (0.085 tonne); and iron (0.498 tonne).

In 2000, the volume of effluent discharged by Cherkasy Water Utility was 2,708,000 m3.  This wastewater received no treatment prior to its discharge into the Kremenchug Reservoir, and carried polluting substances in the following quantities: BODt (8 tonnes); oil products (0.011 tonne); suspended substances (84 tonnes); dry residue (661 tonnes); sulphates (87 tonnes); chlorides (79 tonnes); ammonium nitrogen (1 tonne); nitrates (8 tonnes); surfactants (0.108 tonne); and iron (0.325 tonne).

The Cherkasy Water Utility accounts for 0.046% of the total effluent discharge in the Dnipro Basin.

Major polluting substances contributed by the Cherkasy Water Utility to the total pollution load are iron, BOD, and ammonium nitrogen.
