5.3.12. 590423 Konotop Water Utility

In 1999, the Konotop Water Utility discharged 5,432,000 m3 of wastewater.  The following quantities of major contaminants entered the Seim River with this wastewater volume: BODt (378 tonnes); suspended substances (455 tonnes); dry residue (2,586 tonnes); sulphates (300 tonnes); chlorides (574 tonnes); ammonium nitrogen (6 tonnes); surfactants (0.543 tonne); and iron (2.987 tonne).

In 2000, the total volume of effluent discharged by the Konotop Water Utility was 4,766,000 m3 per year.  This wastewater volume contained major contaminants in the following quantities: BODt (326 tonnes); suspended substances (270 tonnes); dry residue (1,476 tonnes); sulphates (136 tonnes); chlorides (336 tonnes); ammonium nitrogen (59 tonnes); surfactants (0.2 tonne); and iron (2.859 tonne).

The Konotop Water Utility accounts for 0.08% of the total effluent discharge in the Dnipro Basin.

Priority contaminants contained in effluent discharged by the Konotop Water Utility and contributing significantly to surface water pollution are ammonium nitrogen, BOD, iron, nitrates, and sulphates.
