5.3.13. 350109 Alexandria Water Utility

In 1999, the total volume of effluent discharged by the Alexandria Water Utility was 8,332,000 m3 per year.  In 1999, the following quantities of major contaminants entered the Ingulets River with effluent discharges from the Alexandria Water Utility: BODt (92 tonnes); oil products (0.333 tonne); suspended substances (80 tonnes); dry residue (4,056 tonnes); sulphates (646 tonnes); chlorides (642 tonnes); ammonium nitrogen (7 tonnes); nitrates (327 tonnes); surfactants (0.25 tonne); and iron (2.517 tonnes).

In 2000, the Alexandria Water Utility discharged 7,941,000 m3 of wastewater into the Ingulets River, and contributed the following quantities of major contaminants: BODt (109 tonnes); oil products (0.295 tonne); suspended substances (88 tonnes); dry residue (3,791 tonnes); sulphates (660 tonnes); chlorides (582 tonnes); ammonium nitrogen (6 tonnes); surfactants (0.556 tonne); and iron (2.397 tonne).

The Alexandria Water Utility accounts for 0.14% of the total effluent discharge in the Dnipro Basin.

The following major contaminants, contained in effluent discharged by the Alexandria Water Utility, are considered to contribute most significantly to surface water pollution in the Basin: iron, oil products, and BOD.
