5.3.7. 230066 Zaporizhzhia Aluminium Plant

In 1999, the total volume of effluent discharged by the Zaporizhzhia Aluminium Plant was 9,930,000 m3 per year.  These effluents (9.93 million m3) entered a receiving body without any treatment.  The 1999 quantities of individual contaminants that entered the Dnipro River with effluent discharges from Zaporizhzhia Aluminium Plant are as follows: BODt (16 tonnes); oil products (1.634 tonnes); suspended substances (48 tonnes); dry residue (465 tonnes); sulphates (1 tonne); chlorides (38 tonnes); ammonium nitrogen (1 tonne); nitrates (62 tonnes); and iron (0.001 tonne).

In 2000, the Zaporizhzhia Aluminium Plant discharged 13,170,000 m3 of wastewater per year without any treatment.  The following contaminants entered the Dnipro River with effluent discharges from the Zaporizhzhia Aluminium Plant: BODt (24 tonnes); oil products (3.632 tonnes); suspended substances (77 tonnes); dry residue (372 tonnes); sulphates (1 tonne); chlorides (140 tonnes); ammonium nitrogen (1 tonne); phenols (0.05 tonne); and nitrates (10 tonnes).

The Zaporizhzhia Aluminium Plant accounts for 0.226% of the total volume of effluent discharges in the Dnipro Basin.

The following priority contaminants, contained in effluent discharged by the Zaporizhzhia  Aluminium Plant, are considered to contribute most significantly to surface water pollution in the Basin: oil products, phenols, and BOD.
