5.2.1. General Description

Weighted scores at the level of the General Description Subcategory were derived using only two criteria, namely “general discharge intensity” and “proportion of treated wastewater”, due to the lack of data on other criteria.

Municipal effluent discharges: The highest discharge intensity values (a score of 5) were assigned to the following sites: Kyiv Vodokanal Utility, Dnipropetrovsk Vodokanal Utility, Zaporizhzhia Vodokanal Utility and Krivy Rig Vodokanal Utility (Annex B, Table В.4). High discharge intensity values (a score of 4) were assigned to the following sites: Lutsk Vodokanal Utility, Chernigiv Vodokanal Utility, Pavlograd Coal-Mining Company Water Utility, Zhitomyr Vodokanal Utility, Sumy Vodokanal Utility, Dnipropetrovsk Vodokanal Utility, and Kherson Vodokanal Utility. Medium discharge intensity value (a score of 3 or 2) was assigned to 11 sites. The remaining sites were assigned a score of 0 in terms of their discharge intensity.

Industrial effluent discharges: The highest discharge intensity values (a score of 5) were assigned to the following industries: Krivy Rig Steel Plant, Dzerzhinsky Steel Plant (Zaporizhzhia), Dzerzhinsky Metallurgical Plant, Yuzhny Pipework Plant (Nikopol) and another 19 industries (see Annex B, Table В.4). the scores of 4 and 3 were assigned to 3 industries in each case. Low discharge intensity values (a score of 2-1) were assigned to 21 industries. Other industries were assigned a score of 0 in terms of their discharge intensity.

On the basis of the initial scores assigned to industries at the Indicator level, weighted scores were derived for all industries at the level of the General Description Subcategory. The scoring results show that weighted scores vary within a range of 1.429 to 0.0 (Table 5.1). The following Hot Spots received the highest scores:

- Zaporizhzhia Aluminium Plant;

- Petrovsky Metallurgical Plant, Dnipropetrovsk;

- Yuzhny Ore Enrichment Plant, Krivy Rig;

- Krivy Rig Steel Plant.
