Detailed Evaluation

Up one level
The detailed evaluation of the Hot Spots was conducted using the scoring sheets that accompanied the Methodology document (see Chapter 3). The scoring table for the Pollution Control Category was developed to include the following issues (indicators): - a general description of effluent discharge; - characterization (description of properties) of effluent; - pollution load. A detailed evaluation was carried out for 100 Hot Spots (major polluting industries, see Table 4.3). The evaluation results obtained using the scoring tables area presented in Annex B, Table В.1.3. The locations of Hot Spots ranking highest in terms of their effective mass of discharged contaminants (Mx) in Ukraine are shown in Figure 5.1. As a result of detailed evaluation using the scoring sheets, weighted scores were derived for each industry, in each of the following subcategories: (1) General description; (2) Characterisation of discharged wastewater; and (3) Pollution load, as outlined above. Further, the total score was calculated for each of the 100 major polluting industries in the Pollution Control Category (see Table 5.1). In Table 5.1, industries are ranked by their weighted scores derived using a scoring sheet developed for the Pollution Control Category. Table 5.2 summarises results of prioritisation exercise carried out for 22 priority Hot Spots.
