Ecomomic Assessment

This section was prepared in compliance with the requirements and recommendations which were worked out during the working meetings of the national experts of Belarus, Russia and Ukraine on the assessment of Hot Spots within the framework of UNDP – GEF Programme of environmental enhancement of Dnipro River basin. The relevant principles, methodological approaches to evaluation of economic damage caused by pollution of water bodies of the Dnipro River basin and the structure of the efficiency of protection measures for water were elaborated, substantiated and carried forward for execution stage-by-stage.
After pre-screening and selection, the following fifteen Hot Spots were determined as priority Hot Spots (HS) (and therefore the most significant) within the Dnipro River basin in the territory of Belarus (see Chapter 4):
- Minsk vodokanal; Retchitsa vodokanal; Gomel vodokanal; Mogilev Gorvodokanal; Borisov vodokanal; Bobruisk vodokanal; Svetlogorsk “Khimvolokno”; Svetlogorsk heat station; Berezovsk vodokanal; Mozyrsky treatment plants; Orsha vodokanal; Pinsk vodokanal; Zhlobinsky vodokanal; Soligorsk vodokanal; and Slutsk vodokanal.
In compliance with the objectives identified and Methodology, Part 8 “Economic Assessment” examines the following issues:
- Sources of information and data quality control (8.1);
- Detailed assessment (8.2);
- Evaluation of results (8.3).
