2.1. Characteristics of Enterprise and Production
The Mozyr salt works, producing high quality table salt “Extra-Polesye” with the production capacity of 360 thousand tons of salt per year, was put into operation in December 1982. The enterprise was constructed on the land of Dzerzhyncky state farm.
The enterprise relies for raw material on Mozyr rock salt deposit. Layers of deposit salt are washed out from mining holes with water, forming a saturated salt solution.
The technological process of salt production at Mozyr deposit is based on vacuum vaporization of purified solutions.
The OJSC MOZYRSALT, subsidiary of the “Belgospishcheprom” Concern, specializes in producing:
- table vacuum salt “Extra-Polesye”;
- table vacuum salt “Extra-Polesye” with iodine additives (iodized salt);
- table vacuum salt “Extra-Polesye” with fluorine additives (fluoride salt);
- table vacuum salt “Extra-Polesye” with iodine and fluoride additives (fluoride-iodized salt);
- prophylactic salt (low level of NaCl);
- nitrite-brine mixes;
- salt “Belorusskaya”;
- industrial salts.
The enterprise pays special attention to its equipment maintenance and repair. The equipment accountable for the atmospheric pollution includes the boiler-block, drying drums, salt packing machines, welding stations and metal cutting stations.
In 1990 the enterprise was reconstructed:
- the vaporization machines and heat exchange equipment made of stainless steel were replaced with those made of titan alloys;
- a district boiler unit was built;
- technical specifications for electric power supply were revised;
- rain water drainage system was changed.
According to technological schemata of the existing salt works, the bittern lye formed in the course of vacuum vaporization is discharged into storage ponds, wherein the concentration of natrium sulphate amounts to 50 grams per liter, in order to prevent simultaneous fall out of salts during vaporization.
At the OJSC MORYZSALT, sulphate containing bittern is discharged into leaching chambers, which allows to produce table salt without withdrawing natrium sulphate from the operation process, does not require creating storage ponds and, therefore, prevents soil salination and underground water contamination.
The technological process of salt production comprises the following operations:
- brine extraction;
- preparation of reagents;
- soda-lime purification of brine with removal of calcium and magnesium salts;
- vacuum vaporization of the purified brine;
- condensation of the vaporized suspension and salt washing;
- centrifuge processing of the condensed suspension;
- salt drying;
- salt packing and storing;
- salt loading on transportation means and shipping to consumers.
The main type of power used at the OJSC MOZYRSALT is electric power supplied by the district power network. This electric power is used in the technological process and to generate heat. The boiler block operates on mazut.
