CONCLUSION
GIS of surface water quality management in the Dnipro Basin on the Belarusian territory has been created as a result of the implementation of this project. The following objectives state in the project proposal have been fulfilled.
1. The structure of the database compatible with the databases exiting or being developed in Russian and Ukraine has been developed.
2. The initial data of surface water monitoring produced by the monitoring network existing in the Dnipro Basin on the Belarusian territory have been collected and tested.
3. Program modules for the management of the database and user queries have been developed.
4. Thematic layers of cartographic information has been created, the existing network of surface water monitoring in the Dnipro Basin on the Belarusian territory have been spatially referred.
5. The following available applications have been tested and connected to WatGIS: PEREONS, a mathematic model of breakdown pollutions transportation within the Dnipro basin; Dynamic Atlas, a dynamic construction of thematic maps and quick remote access to the data.
6. WatGIS has been installed at major centers of water resources management in the Dnipro Basin on the Belarusian territory.
7. Project results have been disseminated. Brief description of the project goals and obtained results have been prepared. This document has been prepared in a print format to be shared at a final seminar planned for September-October 2003. It is has also been uploaded to the Internet at http://water.un.minsk.by:3128 to be widely accessible by general public.
Operation of WatGIS will raise the level of informational provision of the water resource management agencies, research and public organizations and concerned water users.
